Adult Learning Policy as Pathway to Implement European Integration of Ukraine & SDG #4

Local Side Event in Kyiv, Ukraine during the UN SDG Action Campaign of the Global Day on Sustainable Development in September 2018 (#Act4SDGs).

Organizers: NGO "League of Professional Women" (LPW) and NGO "Institute of Professional Qualifications" under the auspices of Ukrainian side of the EU-Ukraine Civil Society Platform with support of the Civic Synergy Project.

Time: 10:00 to 14:00, registration will open at 9:30

Overview: Adult learning, acquiring new knowledge, skills and competences is an essential component of the lifelong learning system, since it affects the person's competitiveness, chances for their employment, and the protection of their social rights and civil liberties. Adult learning is understood to mean the use of all forms of learning and education at all levels, which allow adults with completed formal education (herein referred to as secondary school, vocational or higher education) to acquire new competences or to deepen their professional knowledge and skills. The legal and policy framework of adult learning and education is still under development in Ukraine. Meantime this issue raised actively on global level. For example, there are relevant to Article 446 under Chapter 27 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #4 in Agenda 2030. Public experts and government officials plan jointly discuss how to improve and bring Ukrainian Lifelong Learning system to international standards.

Welcome speeches by Civic Synergy Project, British Council Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (TBC).

Lunch the new policy paper on "What Should Be the Adult Learning Policy in Ukraine?” by Dr.Olena Lazorenko and Dr. Rodion Kolishko (in Ukrainian) which is conducted with the support of the European Union and the International Renaissance Foundation within the framework of the Civic Synergy Project.

Stakeholder discussion and brainstorming the policy recommendations for National Government on new Adult Learning Policy in Ukraine in general, and local government, gender equality in sectoral policy for adult education and learning in particularly. Facilitator by Mr.Andrey Chuprikov, reporter by Dr. Wołodymyr Wołkowśkyj.

Workshop`s subject focus around: SDG #4 (Task 4.5 & Indicator 4.5.1 “Enrolment rate of adults and youth in formal and non-formal forms of education and professional training ...”) and SDG# 17 - partnership and SDG#5 – gender equality.
